The major health challenges Nigeria faces are infectious diseases, maternal mortality, infant mortality, poor sanitation and hygiene, disease surveillance, non-communicable diseases and road traffic injuries. The top causes of death in Nigeria are malaria and NTD, HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, diarrhea disease, Neonatal disorder, cardiovascular disease, Diabetes, road accidents, protein-energy malnutrition, cancer, meningitis and stroke. AFCHD wants to partner with the various control programmes and agencies to improve services by creating awareness and sensitization of families and communities on these health issues. In addition the families and communities will be taught healthy habits to prevent the spread of diseases such as

• Proper handling and preparation of food,
• Wash hand often
• Clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces
• Cough and sneeze into your sleeve
• Don’t share personal items
• Get vaccinated
• Avoid touching wild animals

All these will definitely lead to the reduction in the burden of these diseases.
