Dr. Nneka Chukwurah has been involved in many researches in Malaria, TB and HIV

Dr. Nneka Chukwurah obtained her first degree from the University of East London in Applied Biology in 1981 and proceeded to University of London, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where she obtained her Master’s degree in Medical Parasitology in 1982. She was employed into the Federal Civil Service on the 6th of December 1985 in the Department of Public Health where she worked as a Scientific Officer in Malaria and Vector Control Unit which later transformed to Malaria Elimination Programme. Still not done with her academic pursuit, Dr. Nneka Chukwurah enrolled for her Doctorate programme in University of Lagos and obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Malaria Parasitology (Aspects of malaria prevention in Pregnancy) in 2012.

 Dr. Nneka Chukwurah has been involved in many researches in Malaria, TB and HIV with papers published in reputable journals both nationally and internationally.  She has presented papers at both National and International conferences.

Dr. Nneka Chukwurah worked in National Malaria and Vector Control Programme in Federal Ministry of Health, Lagos for 20 years. She was thereafter transferred to the National TB and Leprosy Control programme in the Department of Public Health, where she rose to the position of Director in charge of TB/HIV where she retired in 2017.

Dr. Nneka Chukwurah has undertaken various training programmes both nationally and internationally. These trainings include Planning malaria control, Focussed antenatal care, Leadership training on TB/HIV management, TB Infection control and the FAST Strategy and Influencing, Networking and Partnership training.

Dr. Nneka Chukwurah worked as a Central Facilitator in the fight to kick Polio out of Nigeria.

Dr. Nneka Chukwurah has been involved in the training of various cadres of health personnel including the development of various Policy documents and Training Manuals.  She also consults for various national and international organizations including the recently concluded survey known as Nigeria HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) to determine the prevalence of HIV and Hepatitis B and C in Nigeria.

Dr. Nneka Chukwurah was the Chief Editor of the maiden issue of TB/HIV Newsletter of the National TB and Leprosy Control Programme, Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja that was launched during the Annual TB/HIV Meeting in Abuja on December, 2016.

Dr. Nneka Chukwurah is a member of various societies namely: Parasitology Society of Nigeria; Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, London; Malaria Society of Nigeria; Association of Nigerian Women Academic Doctors (ANWAD) and World Association of Academic Doctors (WAAD) with headquarters in the United States of America.
